For those Providers wishing to operate in the domestic market, holding a CCA licence is a pre-requisite to become authorised. If you do not currently have a valid licence, you will need to apply for one. This usually takes around 70 days to come through. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) licenses applicants and will only do so if the organisation is fit and proper. Your own activities, those of your employees, agents or associates – past and present – are considered in this application process. Arrangements as of 1 April 2014
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will take over regulation of consumer credit from the OFT on 1 April 2014. Companies wishing to continue to carry out consumer credit activities after 1 April 2014 must register for interim permission.
Interim permission will apply until firms are requested to apply for full authorisation, the date of which will differ for each firm. Full authorisation will be possible from October 2014 to April 2016. Firms that need to make a change to their activity type will also need to apply for full authorisation.
